Tanya Goldberg Co-Artistic Director

Tanya goes to bed early and never, ever, forgets to brush her teeth.

Co-founder and artistic director of Ride On Theatre, her directing experience includes works for independent and main stages in Sydney and Melbourne and international fellowships with some of the worlds leading theatre-makers.

Theatre directing work includes, for Ride On: The Story of Mary MacLane – By Herself, Way To Heaven by Juan Mayorga (2010 Sydney Theatre Award Nomination for best independent production), An Oak Tree by Tim Crouch, The Merchant of Venice, Bone by John Donnelly, Debris by Denis Kelly (Green Room nomination for Best Independent Production), Weeping Women, and Loveplay by Moira Buffini. For Sydney Theatre Company (STC): The Crucible by Arthur Miller, and Grievous. Bodily. Harm. For WAAPA: Macbeth. For NIDA: Sparkleshark by Phillip Ridley. For New Theatre: The Girl On the Sofa by Jon Fosse.

Most recently she was on a Dramaturgy Exchange to the Müncher Kammerspiele working with director Andreas Kriegenburg on Alles nur der Liebe Wegen, and as Assistant Director to Anne Bogart on American Document (SITI Company & Martha Graham Dance Co, NYC). She was also Assistant Director to Frantic Assembly on Stockholm and Benedict Andrews on War of the Roses for STC; to Michael Colgan from the Gate Theatre, for their Sydney Festival season of First Love, Eh Joe and I’ll Go On; and to Mark Gaal on L’Orfeo for Pinchgut Opera.

Tanya is the recipient of a Mike Walsh Fellowship and Australia Council Skills and Development Grant (2009-2010) and an Ian Potter Cultural Trust Award (2010). She was a member of the 2010 Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab. She was invited and supported by the Goethe Institute and Playwriting Australia to undertake the 2010 Dramaturgy Exchange.

Screen directing includes: short films Great Western, Heck and The Mighty Hand of God. She was directing attachment to Jessica Hobbs on Spirited (Foxtel).

Tanya’s theatre acting credits include Family Stories: Belgrade, The Night Heron, Terminus, Loveplay, The Homecoming and The Women of Troy. Screen credits includes Rake, All Saints, White Collar Blue and Home and Away. Before attending NIDA and after completing her Communications/Law degrees at UTS, Tanya was awarded an ATYP-LendLease Scholarship to study with the Moscow Art Theatre School.
